Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in ‘gunfights’ between their cohorts and police in Rangpur and Thakurgaon districts on early Friday.

Besides, the bullet-hit body of a suspected drug peddler was recovered in Dinajpur, reports the UNB.

With this latest one, 112 people were killed in ‘gunfights’ with members of law enforcement agencies while 34 bodies of suspected  drug traders were recovered after reported gun battle between rival groups since May 15 last across the country.

In Thakurgaon, ShamimHossain 42, was killed in a so-called gunfight with police at Bhadreshwaribandar in Ranishankail upazila early Friday.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area in the early hours on Friday.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, they fired gunshots on police forcing them to fire back in self-defence, leaving Shamim dead on the spot, said Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Ranishankoil Police Station.

He was wanted in several cases, including that of drugs.

Two policemen were also injured in the incident, the OC said.

He claimed that police recovered 340 pieces of Yaba tablets and two firearms from the spot.

In Rangpur, Abu Musa alias BishKalai, 26, was killed in a reported gun battle with police in Kukrul Bridge area in the city around 2:00 am, said Saidur Rahman, additional superintendent of Rangpur Police.

Police also recovered 177 pieces of Yaba tablets, one pistol and 52 bottles of phensidyl from the spot.

In Dinajpur, police recovered the bullet-hit body of a suspected drug pusher from Kharipara in Sadar upazila around 2:45am, said Redwanur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

He might have killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of drug peddlers, said police.

One hundred bottles of phensidyl and one shutter gun were recovered from the spot.
