Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday directed Cumilla special tribunal to dispose a bail petition as soon as possible filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed in Cumilla over the February 3, 2015 arson attack.

An HC bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Khaleda Zia in the case, reports the UNB.

Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain stood for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam accompanied by Deputy Attorneys General AKM Amin Uddin Manik and Moniruzzaman Rubel represented the state.

Earlier, the High Court on Sunday adjourned until Monday (today) the hearing on a bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the case.

On June 5 last, the BNP chief filed the bail petition through her lawyers in the case filed under the Special Powers Act.

On February 3, 2015, eight people were killed in a petrol bomb attack on a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla district during a movement waged by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

After the incident, three cases - one for killing, one under the Explosive Substances Act and the other under the Special Powers Act - were filed with Chouddagram Police Station against Khaleda Zia and several top BNP leaders.
