Kurigram: A newlywed young couple allegedly hanged themselves with the same scarf at their house at Harikesh Madhypara of Kurigram municipality on Wednesday.

The deceased are Milon Hossain, 22, son of Belal Hossain of the area, and his wife Monisha Begum, 19.

Victims’ family members said the duo who had been in love with each other eloped last month and got married. Monisha’s mother Mina Begum did not accept the marriage.

On Wednesday morning, Monisha went to visit her mother’s house and came back at noon.

Getting no response from their room for a long, family members peeped through the door at noon only to find them hanging from the ceiling with a scarf.

Later, they were taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Mahfuzar Rahman a police team visited the spot.
