Fake voting going on in Gazipur, alleges BNP
Dhaka: BNP on Tuesday alleged that ruling party men captured over 100 voting centres and were stuffing ballots in today’s election to Gazipur City Corporation.
‘As per the information we’ve received so far, over 100 polling stations have been captured ...a grand festival of fake voting is going on,’ said party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, reports the UNB.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, he also alleged that their party mayoral candidate’s polling agents have been forced out of many centres by ruling party men with the help of police.
The BNP leader also said their party’s mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker’s chief election agent Sohrab Uddin lodged various complaints with the returning officer, but no action has been taken yet in this regard.
Voting in the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) began on Tuesday morning to elect its new mayor and councillors.
The balloting that began at 8:00 am will continue till 4:00 pm without any break at 425 polling stations.
Rizvi alleged police are playing the role of ruling party cadres in the Gazipur polls.
He alleged that their candidates’ some polling agents have been arrested from different voting centres while pro-BNP voters are not allowed to enter some police stations.
