Dhaka: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists allegedly attacked the quota reformists when they were taking preparation to bring out a protest procession from the central Shaheed Minar here on Monday morning.

Around 150 BCL leaders and activists swooped on quota reformists around 10:30am when they gathered in the area to stage demonstrations protesting filing of ‘false’ cases against general students, reports the UNB.

They beat up Faruk Hossain, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, a platform that leads the quota reform movement, and picked him up, said witnesses.

Besides, female protester Lutfunnahar Lima also injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, a group of teachers and students of the English Department of Dhaka University formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on Dhaka University campus protesting the attack on Nurul Huq Nur, joint convener of the council and also a student of the department, in the morning.

Addressing the human chain, Tasneem Siraj Mahboob, a teacher of the English Department of Dhaka University, said such attack on the university students on the campus is never acceptable.

She also demanded punishment of the attackers.

Earlier on Saturday, at least six leaders of the platform were injured in an attack allegedly by some BCL activists on Dhaka University campus.

Protesting the attack, the students’ council called for an indefinite boycott of classes and examinations in all universities and colleges across the country from Sunday.

Besides, the Detective Branch (DB) of Police on Sunday arrested Rashed Khan, joint convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, from Bhasantek area in the city.
