Dhaka: A thirteen member’s lawyer body form Supreme Court on Sunday has sent a legal notice to the authorities of the Dhaka University (DU) and Rajshahi University (RU) asking them to know what legal measures would be taken against the BCL leaders and activists who attacked quota protestors.

The lawyer’s body on behalf of the victim students - Md Faruk Hasan, Md Moshiur Rahman, Jasim Uddin and Rashed of DU and Tariqul Islam of RU, sent the legal notice by post office to vice-chancellors, proctors and registers of the two universities.

The notice asked what legal measures would be taken against the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) who were involved in attacks on quota protestors on June 30 at DU and July 1 at RU campus.

If the universities’ authorities do not take legal steps against the leaders and activists who were directly involved in attack incidents, it (lawyers body) will take legal action against the universities’ authorities, the legal notice said.

Lawyer Barrister Jotirmoy Barua said BCL leaders and activists attacked on the general student as they demonstrated for quota reform.

Although the attack incidents were captured and published by different media outlets, the universities’ authorities yet to take any legal measures against the attackers, the notice noted.

These incidents go counter to the law and justice system of the country. It is clear that the universities’ authorities are not fit for their posts, the lawyer added.
