Dhaka: A day after the apex court granted him bail in an ICT case, Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman was shown arrested in a fresh bomb blast case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in 2013, reported UNB.

Shahbagh Police Station sub-inspector Harun-or-Rashid also submitted a prayer seeking a seven-day remand before Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi’s court.

The court fixed February 22 for hearing on the remand plea.

Kamal Hossain, a resident student of Dhaka University’s Surya Sen Hall, filed the case in January, 2013 against 40 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and 50-60 unnamed people for a bomb blast on the DU campus.

In the case statement, it was mentioned that the accused exploded a hand bomb near Mokarram Bhaban, leaving plaintiff Kamal and some others injured.

Earlier on Sunday, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court order that granted bail to Mahmudur in a case filed against him under the ICT Act, apparently paving the way for his release.

He was arrested from his Karwan Bazar office on April 11, 2013 in the case under the ICT act.

With the fresh case, Mahmudur is now facing nearly 70 cases filed on different charges.

Meanwhile, BNP voiced its concern over showing Mahmudur Rahman arrested in a new case.
