2 kidnappers held, victim rescued

Dhaka: Detectives arrested two alleged kidnappers and rescued a minor boy in their separate drives in Gaibandha and Gazipur districts on Sunday.

The arrested kidnappers are Abdul Jabbar Thando alias Babul and his wife Nazma Akhter.

Mobarak was abducted from in front of his residence in Uttara Sector-9 of the capital on December 29 last while playing.

Briefing reporters at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Centre on

Monday, Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam said the kidnappers

demanded Tk 5 lakh to victim’s father Md Faruque, a fruit trader,

over phone after two days of his abduction

After bargaining, Faruque sent Tk 17,000 to the kidnappers through bKash and registered a general diary with Uttara West Police Station.  Later, the GD was recorded as a case after 40 days of the abduction, Monir said.

Following investigation, a special DB team conducted a drive in Saghata of Gaibandha district on Sunday and arrested Abdul Jabbar.

Following his statement, the team raided Mauna village of Sreepur in Gazipur in the evening and rescued the abducted boy, Mobarak, and arrested Jabbar’s wife Nazma, he said.

During preliminary interrogation, Jabbar revealed that he married several girls in Gaibandha, Meherpur and Gazipur districts concealing his real name.

He used to take shelter in houses of different wives after committing crime.
