President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday expressed profound shock at the death of SM Mostafa Rashidi Suja, a parliament member from Khulna-4 constituency.

MP Suja died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Thursday night. He was 68.

Suja breathed his last around 12:00am, said his brother Mortoza Rashidi Dara, reports the UNB.

The former whip, who had been suffering from kidney ailments, was admitted to the hospital on July 18.

Suja left behind wife, one son, two daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his death, reports the BSS.

He was elected parliament member from Khulna-4 constituency (Rupsha, Terokhada, Digholia) thrice.

Suja was made whip by the then ruling Awami League in 1996.

In a condolence message, the President conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.

‘The countrymen, particularly the people of Khulna, have lost a pro-people leader…he (Suja) had immense contribution to local development and flourishing democracy in the country,’ he said.

Abdul Hamid added: ‘His sad demise is really irreparable loss to the country’s political arena’.

In a condolence message, the prime minister said the popular Awami League leader worked for the people till his death. ‘His contributions to the politics as well as development of Khulna will be ever remembered,’ she added.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
