A suspected drug trader and two other ‘criminals’ were killed in separate gunfights in Cumilla, Satkhira and Barguna districts early Saturday.

In Cumilla,A suspected drug trader, Shahidul Islam Sabu, son of Badsha Miah of Ekbalia area, was killed in a reported gunfight with a joint team of law enforcers at Kaptanbazar in Sadar upazila in the early morning, reports the UNB.

On information, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a drive in the area around 4:00am.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, they found Shahidul, who was wanted in 27 drug and arms case, hit with bullets and took him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

In Satkhira,Rezaul Islam, 48, son of Mazed Sarder of Badghata village in Shyamnagar upazila and a suspected ringleader of a motorcycle snatching gang, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Noornagar area early in the morning.

Md Elius Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, said a team of Detective Branch of police arrested Rezaul, wanted in several cases including theft and abduction, from Mirpur area of Dhaka on Thursday.

After gleaning information from Rezaul, a team of police conducted a drive along with him in the area to recover motorcycles.

When the team reached the area, the members of the gang, opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back that triggered the gunfight, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police recovered a one shooter gun and a round of bullet from the spot.

In Barguna,Kajol, a suspected member of robber gang ‘Jahangir Bahini’, was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a char of Baleshwar river Patharghata upazila.

A team of RAB-8 challenged a trawler in the river around 5:30am, said RAB sources.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight which left Kajol dead on the spot.
