5 killed in ‘gunfights’ in 4 districts

Three suspected robbers, a ‘drug trader’ and an ‘outlaw’ were killed in separate gunfights with police and Rab in Cumilla, Sirajganj, Tangail and Rajbari districts early Friday.

Of them, three ‘robbers’ were killed in Cumilla and Sirajganj districts while an ‘outlawed party leader’ was killed in Rajbari district and a suspected drug trader was killed in Tangail district.

In Cumilla, two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfights will DB police on Batakandi-Asmania road in Titash upazila early Friday, reports the UNB.

The deceased were identified as Al Amin alias Kausar, son of KhorshedAlam of Maniknagar village in Titashupazila and Ershad Mia, son of Nurul Islam of Kongshanagar village in Burichangupazila.

Tipped off, that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 am, said ShakhawatHossain, additional superintendent of Cumilla police.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Later, police recovered the bodies of Al Amin and Ershad.

Police also recovered two firearms and some sharp weapons from the spot.

In Sirajganj, Hazrat Ali, 35, a suspected robber, was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members at Paikpara in Ullaparaupazila early Friday.

Tipped off, a team of police went to the spot around 3 am, said Sakibul Islam Khan, additional superintendent of Police and Commanding officer of Rab-12.

Sensing presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on the Rab men, prompting them to take action.

Later, Rab members recovered the body of Ali and two shutter guns, 14 catridges, one axe, a sharp weapon and three bullets from the spot.

In Rajbari, LalonHawladar, 42, second-in-command of ‘JulhashBahini’ ‘LalPataka’, a faction of the outlawed ‘PurbaBanglar Communist Party’ hailing from Sujanagarupazila in Pabna district was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Sluice Gate in Pangshaupazila early Friday.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 4 am, said FazlulKarim, senior assistant superintendent of Rajbari police (Pangsha circle).

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the outlawed party men opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back.

At one stage, police recovered the body of Lalon, who was wanted in four cases, from the spot.

Police also recovered two firearms and six cartridges from the scene.

In Tangail, police recovered the body of a suspected drug trader identified as Masud Rana Farid, 42, a former UP member, from Jalchhatra Magontinagar in Madhupur uapzila early Friday.

Ahaduzzaman Mia, additional superintendent of Tangail police, said being informed that two gangs of drug traders were exchanging bullets, a team of police went to the spot and recovered the body of Rana, son of Shamsul Mandal of Kakraid village, and sent it to Tangail General Hospital morgue around 9 am.

He was wanted in five drug related cases, said Ahaduzzaman.
