British parliamentary team meets Speaker

Dhaka: A three-member British parliamentary team led by Sir Keir Starmer on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office.
They discussed various issues including parliamentary activities, mini parliament, women empowerment and the leadership of Bangladesh in Commonwealth Parliamentary Union and Inter-Parliamentary Union, said a press release in Dhaka.
Mentioning about the parliament of the country, Dr Sharmin, also Chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) executive committee, said the opposition parties and individual parliamentarians are taking part actively in parliamentary activities.
She said there have been parliamentary standing committees in all ministries to ensure accountability in their activities.
Other members of the team were Stephen Timms and Steve Reed.
