Dhaka: BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Friday warned that people will also take to the streets soon like students to explode their pent-up anger against the government.

Speaking at a discussion, he also said the agitating students do not have confidence in the government’s assurance of meeting their nine-point demand as the Prime Minister ‘deceived’ those waged a movement demanding reform in quota system in public services, reports the UNB.

Labour Party, one of the components of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club.

‘Our students are saying they want to see a safe Bangladesh, not Awami League’s digital one. The movement over the death of two students is the explosion of people’s pent-up anger,’ the BNP leader said.

He said people also have anger in their minds due to the government’s widespread corruption, plundering and misrule.  ‘People will burst their anger. It’ll surely happen…  wait and see.’

Moudud, a BNP standing committee member, also said not only the supporters of their party, but also all democratic and political parties will get united and take to the streets together with people against the government.

He said the government now has no alternative to engage in discussions with political parties to overcome the country’s crisis. ‘The government will be forced to hold talks in the face of people’s movement.’

The BNP leader also warned the government that it will not be able to tackle the situation once people take to the streets to air their anger.

He hailed the students for carrying out a peaceful movement maintaining discipline.

‘A student stopped my car today (Friday), and asked my driver to show all the papers. Checking those they said all right, and asked the driver to keep the papers always in the bluebook. I got surprised, and felt encouraged and proud,’ Moudud said sharing his experience.

He said students are doing what law enforcers were supposed to do. ‘Why are students doing it?  The students are engaging in the tasks as the government has failed to run the country.’

Referring to the attack on students in Mirpur allegedly by police and ruling party activists on Thursday, he strongly condemned the incident.
