Dhaka: BNP on Sunday alleged that the government is trying to implicate the party with the student movement and violence as part of its plot to divert the agitation to a different direction.

‘The government is hatching new plots to divert the student movement to a different direction. They’re making evil efforts to implicate BNP with terror acts in different ways,’ said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He came with allegation while speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

The BNP leader said the ministers and ruling party leaders are talking about BNP’s involvement in the movement to foil the student agitation and launch attack on the democratic forces.

‘We would like to clearly say that BNP believes in democracy and practises it. We neither pampered any terror acts in the past nor does it now,’ he added.

Fakhrul alleged that the ruling party men wearing helmets and equipped with arms and sharp weapons attacked students, leaving many of them injured.

He said the country’s people and students have lost their trust in the government since it deceived students reneging on its commitment to revoke the quota system.

The BNP leader said the government has turned the country into a failed state by destroying its all institutions.

He called upon the people of all walks of life to put united efforts to unseat the current ‘autocratic’ regime.

About the reported audio clip of telephonic conversation between BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and an unknown boy over intensifying the ongoing student movement, he said it was made faking the BNP leader’s voice.

He said it was heard in the ‘so-called’ audio clip that Khosru asked the boy to join student movement. ‘I don’t find anything in it.’

Fakhrul alleged that law enforcers raided the house of Khosru twice on Saturday night to arrest him.

He also said police also conducting raid on the houses of Chhatra Dal leaders and harassing their family members.
