East West university students and cops clash in Aftabnagar
Dhaka: A clash broke out between the students of East West University and police in front of its campus at Aftabnagar in the city on Monday morning while the students were staging demonstrations protesting Saturday’s attacks on students at Jhigatala.
When a group of students gathered in front of the university around10:30am, police lobbed teargas shells to disperse them.
A chase and counter-chase took place between the police and the students, said witnesses.
The clash was continuing till filing of the report.
The protesting school and college students, who were managing the traffic at Jigatala intersection and Mirpur in the capital, came under attack on Saturday which left an unspecified number of students injured.
Besides, several hundred students of Dhaka University staged demonstrations on the campus protesting the attack on the students and demanding resignation of Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan at noon.
