Dhaka: Pragatishil Chhatra Jote (PCJ), an alliance of left-leaning student organisations, on Tuesday announced to stage demonstrations in all the educational institutions across the country on Wednesday, protesting attacks on students seeking safe roads.

Golam Mostafa, coordinator of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote, came up with the announcement while speaking at a press conference, held at Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus in the afternoon, reports the UNB.

They also placed a five-point demand -- release of Drik Gallery MD Shahidul Alam, the students detained during their agitation programme, taking effective measures for ensuring safe roads, arrest and punishment of those involved in the attacks on students and providing training to drivers and other transport staff.

General secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Union Liton Nandi was, among others, present at the press conference.

Meanwhile, 150-200 students of Dhaka University under the banner of ‘Students Against Repression’ brought out a procession on the campus protesting the attacks on the students.

The procession paraded DU Central Library, Madhur Canteen, Kala Bhaban (Arts Faculty) and Rokeya Hall areas and then ended at the altar of Raju Sculpture.
