Dhaka: BNP on Thursday alleged that the government is carrying out a brutal aggression through conducting a ‘combing operation’ on the students to take revenge on them as they demonstrated seeking safe roads.

‘The government has got sacred as the children and adolescent students woke up against misrule. Their movement was different and unique type of one, but now the government has been on a revenge spree on them, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He came up with the allegation at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

The BNP leader said the government did not stop its repressive acts even after shedding blood of children and adolescents with the ‘goons’ of Chhatra League as now it is conducting a crackdown on them.

‘Government forces conducted a combing operation at different parts of the capital, including Bashundhara, last night (Wednesday night). This drive is a direct and brutal aggression on students,’ he observed.

Rizvi demanded the government immediately stop such drives and harassing the children and adolescent students.

The BNP leader alleged that around 35 cases were filed with 18 police stations in the capital accusing thousands of unanimous students.

‘Police have admitted that they arrested 45 students while 22 of them were taken on remand. The innocent students are being repressed by taking them on remand,’ he said.

The BNP leader said the guardians are passing their days in deep panic due to the filing of cases against students and continued drives by police.

Rizvi said Bashundhara area turned into a scary scene on Wednesday night due to law enforcers’ overnight drive to suppress students’ apolitical and justified movement.

The BNP leader said the government will not be able to suppress the students with its repressive acts as they woke up against its misrule.

He criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for what she said not going to see the students and journalists who were injured in the attacks by ruling party cadres. ‘She went to see Chhatra League activists who attacked students and journalists.’

Rizvi also alleged that though the High Court directed the authorities concerned to send detained photographer Shahidul Alam to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for his treatment, the medical authorities declined to admit him at the behest of the government.
