MK Anwar gets bail in violence case, no bar to release
Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday granted a six-month interim bail to BNP standing committee member MK Anwar in a violence case filed with Badda Police Station in the capital, clearing the way for his release.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain passed the order after hearing a bail petition, reports UNB.
Advocate Joynal Abedin and Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon stood for MK Anwar while deputy attorney general AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir represented the state.
Talking to reporters, Sagir said there is no legal bar to the BNP leader’s release from jail as he secured bail in all 21 cases filed against him.
Police filed a case against MK Anwar with Badda Police Station on 1 February last year on charge of instigating violence during the blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led alliance.
On 2 February last, a Dhaka court rejected the bail petition of MK Anwar in the case. Later, he filed the petition with the HC on 8 February against the lower court’s order.
On 18 August last year, a Comilla court sent BNP leader Anwar to jail rejecting his bail petition in a case filed for petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila of the district on 3 February last year.
