Dhaka: Dhaka Road Transport Owners’ Association on Thursday cancelled the membership of five bus companies for plying their vehicles on contract system.

The membership of Suprabhat Paribahan, Skyline Paribahan, Azmeri Paribahan, DMK Paribahan and Gabtali-Sadarghat Paribahan was cancelled for violating the association’s decision to abolish the system of daily contracts with the bus drivers and their helpers, association’s General Secretary Khandaker Enayetullah told UNB.

The association has assigned four teams for checking licenses of drivers and other related documents of its member paribahans at Mirpur, Saedabad, Mohakhali and Fulbaria bus terminals, said Enayetullah, also the general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association.

On Wednesday, as part of its efforts to curb road accidents, the association decided not to run any bus on contract system, which leads to rash driving, in the capital from Thursday.
