Bullet-hit bodies of 2 ‘criminals’ found in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram

Dhaka: Police recovered the bullet-hit bodies of two suspected criminals in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar on Monday.

In Chattogram, Altaf Hossain alias Kana Altaf, 42, a listed criminal and vice-president of Mariamnagar union unit Awami League, was found dead along Chattogram-Kaptai road in Rangunia upazila in the morning.

Informed by locals, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Altaf, son of Abdul Motaleb of Mariamnagar village, around 10:00 am and sent it to local hospital morgue, said Imtiaz Mohammad Ehsanul Quader, officer-in-charge of Rangunia Police Station.

Altaf’s name was listed at the Home Ministry as a ‘drug trader’ and he was wanted in 11 cases, said the OC.

However, the motive behind the killing could not be known yet.

In Cox’s Bazar, police recovered the bullet-hit body of a ‘criminal’ from a hill in Shaplapur union of Maheshkhali upazila of the district at noon.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek, 38, son of Bashir Ahmed of Panirchhara village of the upazila.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station, said Malek was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of ‘criminals’ in the area.

On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body around 12 pm.

Police also recovered five firearms, nine bullets and 500 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.
