Brac official, two others killed in separate road crashes

Three people, including a Brac official, were killed in separate road accidents in Naogaon, Gazipur and Jhenaidah districts on Thursday and Friday.

In Gazipur, a woman was killed when a covered van run over her on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Chandona intersection here on Friday.

Police said the accident took place when a covered van hit the unidentified women while crossing road in the morning, leaving her dead on the spot, reports the UNB.

Later, local people vandalised the covered van and gave a good thrashing to a helper of the driver, leaving him injured.

He was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital.

In Naogaon, a Brac official was killed in a road accident on Patnitala-Mahadebpur regional highway in Patnitalaupazila headquarters on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 30, an accountant of Patnitala branch of Brac and son of Samser Ali of Kashipur village in Kurigramupazila.

Parimal Kumar, officer-in-charge of Patnitala Police Station, said the accident took place around 11:00am when two motorbikes collided with each other, leaving Shafiqul dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue.

In Jhenaidah, an unidentified man was killed when an unknown vehicle knocked him down near Sadhuhati Girl’s School area on Jhenaidah-chuadanga road in Sadarupazila on Thursday midnight.
