The ruling Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said there is no scope to backtrack from next general election process as per the constitution.

In reply to BNP’s recent demand of moving away from the electoral process to give them chance to take part in the upcoming polls, he said, ‘The process of national election is a provision of the constitution and there is no scope to retreat from the process before holding of the next general polls.’

He was speaking as the chief guest at an information display program on ‘Rumour exasperation, propaganda – Be defended Bangladesh’ at National Museum auditorium in the capital, reports the BSS.

Member Secretary of the AL’s sub-committee on Publicity and Publication and the party’s Publicity Secretary and also former minister Dr Hasan Mahmud presided over the function while Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin conducted it.

Channel Ekattar Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mozammel Haque Babu spoke on the occasion as the special guest while student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Zafrin Ahmed Rupanti and Dhaka City College student Namraj Hossain Shahim addressed the function on behalf of the students.

Among others, AL Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Education and Human Resources Secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa and Central Executive Committee Member Marufa Akhter Popy were present on the occasion.

‘The people belonging to the new generation had returned home in response to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina which indicates their wisdom,’ Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, observed.

‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accepted all nine demands of the students as their movement for road safety was correct,’ he said, adding that the premier gave instruction of not putting any force on the demonstrators during the movement.

Coming down heavily on some mass media for their controversial role at different times, Quader said, ‘Weren’t they involved in de-politicization during the 1/11 changeover?’

‘They are still playing the same role and want to minus Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from politics,’ he added.
