Dhaka: BNP on Saturday alleged that ruling party high-ups are making ‘reckless remarks’ involving Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman over the August-21 grenade attack case as part of its plot over the next general election.

‘People are in doubt whether the government is going to implement a verdict written by itself through the court. Their (govt) comments give people an impression that a dictated verdict is going to be delivered,’ said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, reports the UNB.

Speaking at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he further said, ‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader are making unguarded remarks over Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman to influence the August-21 grenade attack case. Their comments are an indication of a deep-rooted conspiracy ahead of the national election’.

Referring to AL general secretary Obaidul Qauders’ comment that BNP will be in serious trouble after the pronouncement of August-21 case verdict in September, the BNP leader questioned how he came to know the verdict will be given in September as it’s a matter of court,’ Quader’s such remark has exposed that the government is making an evil design over the verdict.’

He alleged that the government is doing politics with a motive over the August-21 grenade attack case.

Incumbent IGP Javed Patwary, who was the additional IGP of CID in 2008, submitted an inquiry report saying Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami led by Mufti Hannan and Mawlana Taj Uddin carried out the incident. In their probe report, they did not mention the name of BNP and Tarique Rahman, said Rizvi.

The BNP leader said now the government is trying to influence the verdict to implicit Khaleda and Tarique to hold another lopsided election. ‘The government has indulged in a destructive game of holding the next election without the participation of opposition parties.’

He warned that the government will not be able to resist its fall by making such an evil design.
