Cox’s Bazar: Six people were killed and six others injured in head-on collision between a bus and human-hauler, locally known as leguna, in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning.

Five of the deceased were identified as Abul Kashem, 23, son of Saiful Alam, Zahir Ahmed, 30, son of Mansur Alam, Rokeya Begum, 37 and her daughter Bashanti Shikder, 14, of Chakaria upazila and Khair Ahmed, 32, driver of the human-hauler of Lohagara upazila.

Nur-e-Alam, in-charge of Siringa Highway Police camp, said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Starline Paribahan’ collided head-on with the human hauler in Baratoli Rastarmatha area around 11 am, leaving four passengers of the leguna, including its driver, dead on the spot and eight others injured.

Two of the injured died on the way to Sadar Hospital. On information, police went to the spot and rescued the injured, said Nur-e -Alam.

The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital, he added.
