Barishal: A union parishad chairman was gunned down by some miscreants at Karfa Bazar in Ujirpur upazila on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Bishwajit Baroi Nantu, 40, chairman of Jalla union parishad and also president of union Awami League, reports the UNB.

Shishir Kumar Pal, officer-in-charge of Ujirpur Police Station, said that some  youths riding on two motorcycles came to Bishwajit’s shop ‘Swarna Garments and Cloth Store’ around pm and opened fire on him, leaving critically injured.

Rescued by locals, he was rushed to Ujirpur Health Complex.

As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Barishal Sher-e Bangla Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Three bullet injury marks were found in his body, said the OC.

Md Saiful Islam, superintendent of Barishal district police, said that they are trying to arrest the killers.
