Dhaka: A two-day-long international conference on ‘1971: Liberation War, Genocide and the World’ will begin at Bangla Academy in the city on Friday.

Genocide-Torture and Liberation War Studies Centre in association with the Ministry of Culture Affairs will organising the international conference for the second consecutive year, reports the UNB.

The conference was organized to create awareness among national and international community about the brutal genocide that took place in Bangladesh in 1971, said Muntasir Mamun, president of ‘1971: Genocide-Torture Archive and Museum Trust’, at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.

The conference will be inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor on Friday morning at Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy, he said.

At least 26 researchers, journalists and experts from eight countries are scheduled to attend the conference.

He also said that Dr. Syed Anwar Husain, Bangabandhu Chair of Bangladesh University of Professionals, will present the keynote paper where several other local and foreign researchers will also present their research papers.

President of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Md Shahriar Kabir, among others, was also present at the press conference.
