Dhaka: Detectives in a drive recovered several bombs and a huge amount of bomb-making materials from a house in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area early Saturday.

Tipped off, a team of DB (South Division) conducted a drive in the rented flat of Shah Alam alias Salahuddin, arrested on Friday from the city’s Badda area, on the 5th floor of ‘Nabadoy Housing’ at

Block-B in Mohammadpur, and recovered the bombs and explosives, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam told reporters on the spot.

However, most of the bombs have been defused, he added, according to a UNB news.

Besides, there are some heavy bombs weighing 5-6 kilograms which will be taken to remote places for defusing, said Monirul, also the chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

Earlier on Friday, a DB inspector was injured in an attack allegedly by militants during a drive in a den of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the city’s Badda area.

The militants swooped on the detectives and hit inspector Bahauddin Faruqui in the head with a machete.

Later, DB police arrested two people—Kamal alias Shaheen and Shah Alam alias Salahuddin—for their alleged involvement in the incident.

Following the confessional statement of Salahuddin, DB police conducted the drive in Salahuddin’s house.
