Dhaka: President of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Saturday said his party will not join the new political alliance, ‘Jatiya Oikya Front,’ unless BNP parts the company of anti-liberation forces.

‘Bikalpadhara won’t join the unity to bring BNP back to power unilaterally. To forge the national unity, the first conditions are to leave the company of anti-liberation forces and make a clear announcement of bringing a balance in state power and politics,’ he told a press conference, reports the UNB.

The press conference was arranged at his residence in the city’s Baridhara area in the evening, almost the same time when Jatiya Oikya Front comprising BNP, Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya and Jukta Front held another press conference at the Jatiya Press Club.

B Chowdhury alleged that Dr Kamal Hossain showed discourteous behaviour as he kept his residence’s door locked on Saturday afternoon inviting him to attend a meeting there.

‘Bikalpadhara had long been in a process for forging this unity. As part of the process, I was invited to go to Dr Kamal’s Bailey road residence on Saturday afternoon,’ he said adding that it was supposed to announce the national unity after the meeting.

B Chowdhury said Gano Forum secretary general Mostafa Mohsin Mantu phoned him to go to Dr Kamal Hossain’s chamber at Motijheel while he was returning after waiting for 14-15 minutes in front of his (Kamal’s) residence.

Reading out the party’s statement over the national unity, Bikalpadhara secretary general Maj (retd) MA Mannan said his party had always been in efforts to expand the unity process with BNP, but took a rigid stance on two major conditions on ethical ground.

‘From today, Bikalpadhara won’t give any scope to mislead the nation by sitting with BNP in the name of a national unity,’ he said.

Bikalpadhara joint secretary general Mahi B Chowdhury said, ‘We still didn’t back off from (formation of) this national unity. We don’t know whether we’ve been excluded. They should inform us clearly if so.’

‘But our position is clear: We won’t forge any unity for putting BNP or any party in power unilaterally,’ he said.
