Bagerhat: Mentioning that the people of all faiths are enjoying equal rights in Bangladesh, Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed on Tuesday said there is no minority in the country other than militants and terrorists.

‘There’s no minority in the country. Only militants and terrorists are minority here,’ he said while talking to reporters after visiting Hakimpur Sikderbari Puja Mandap in Sadar upazila, reports the UNB.

The Rab chief said the Constitution safeguards citizen rights, human rights as well as basic rights of all people. ‘There’s no communal discrimination in our country,’ he said.

About the upcoming national election, he said election is a normal process in a democratic country. ‘It’s natural that the election will be held in every five years and there’ll be an elected government. There’s nothing to be worried over it.’

Turning to Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, Benazir Ahmed said it is being celebrated in the country peacefully with a festive mood.

Members of law enforcement agencies were providing security at over 31,000 puja mandaps across the country this year.

Country’s biggest puja is being held at Sikderbari Puja Mandap with the installation of 701 idols.

For the past eight years, Liton Sikder, a businessman from Hakimpur village of Khanpur union, has been holding the biggest Durga Puja in Bagerhat and South Asia as well.

The number of idols increases during the festival every year and this year, the total number stands at 701.
