Gopalganj: Two minor girls drowned in a pond in Uttarpara village of Kotalipara upazila on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Limi Roy, 7, daughter of Liton Roy and Audri Sarkar, 6, daughter of Ashok Sarkar of the village and pre-school students of Bagan Uttrpara Primary School, reports the UNB.

Limi and Audri forgot to bring their pencils in the morning and went to their respective houses to bring pencils around 10:30 am but never came back, said Sonia Akhter, a teacher of the school.

It’s being assumed that duo slipped into the pond and drowned while returning to the school, said Limi’s father.

Locals recovered the body from the pond around 12:05 pm, said Md Kamrul Faruk, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Police Station.
