Dhaka: Jatiya Oikyafront, led by Dr Kamal Hossain, will hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city on November 6 to push for its seven-point demand ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections.

On behalf of the Oikyafront, BNP senior joint secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Friday, reports the UNB.

‘We’ve completed the necessary official tasks for holing the rally as we sent separate letters to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Suhrawardy Udyan authorities (Public Works Department) in this regard,’ he said.

The BNP leader said Public Works Department said that it will not have any objection to the rally if the DMP allows them to arrange the programme.

He said their party will hold a joint meeting at 11:00am on Saturday at their party’s central office about the preparation of the meeting.

It will be the third rally of the Oikyafront as the alliance held rallies in Sylhet and Chattogram on October 24 and 27 respectively.

On Thursday night, Oikyafront leaders, led by Dr Kamal Hossain, held a lengthy discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led 14-party alliance leaders at Ganobhaban.

Briefing reporters about the outcome of the talks, Dr Kamal Hossain said they placed their seven-point demand before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina but did not find any specific solution except some good words about rallies and meetings.

‘The Prime Minister delivered a long speech, but we didn’t find any specific solution there. However, she uttered some good words about rallies and meetings,’ he said.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said their party is not happy over the talks with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led 14-party alliance. ‘There were discussions on various issues. The Prime Minister said they will sit again. I, on behalf of my party, can say we’re not happy with today’s discussions.’

Gono Frorum executive president Subrata Chowdhury said the Prime Minister told them that there will be no restriction on holding any rally and political programmes. ‘Political parties can hold rallies wherever they want, and law enforcers will cooperate with them. The Prime Minister said she has already directed the law enforcers in this regard.’
