Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged the Alem-Ulema of the country not to take laws in their own hands provoked by false propaganda on social media.

‘If anyone says anything against our Prophet his/her trial will be done as per laws of the land, we won’t take laws in our own hands…the law will take its own course. We’ll give them [propagators] appropriate lessons so that they cannot spread such propaganda in the future,’ she said.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing the Sukrana Mahfil (Thanksgiving rally) for recognizing Dawrae Hadith (Takmil) Certificate in Qawmi Madrasah with the status of postgraduate degrees of Islamic Studies and Arabic at historic Suhrawardy Udyan organised by Alem and Ulemas of Qawmi Madrasah under Al-Haiyatul Ulia Lil-Jamiatil Qawmia, reports the UNB.

To prevent false propaganda in social media, she said, the government has enacted the cybercrime law.

Hasina said she knows various types of propaganda are being spread on social media and urged all not to believe those. ‘We’ve enacted the Cybercrime Act, if anyone spreads false propaganda that person’s trial will be booked at once and put on trial under the law of the land,’ she said.

The Prime Minister said she and her party always follow the path of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

The essence of Islam is peace, brotherhood, cordiality and the spirit of non-communalism, she said adding: ‘We all will walk taking the lessons what our Prophet taught us.’

Hasina said the world has been created by the Allah, not a single leaf of a tree moves without the permission of Allah. ‘Everything good-bad has been created by Allah, our trust and confidence have to be always in Him.’

She said all have to think about the welfare, development and good for people shunning the thinking of hatred, enmity and bad for others.

Talking about the ongoing enmity and killing among the Muslims across the world, Sheikh Hasina said the arms producers and sellers are gainers from these killings among the Muslims.

She mentioned when she had meetings with the OIC secretary general and Saudi King, she told them that Muslim Ummah has to be united and step forward together. ‘If anyone has conflict that can be resolved through dialogue… Islam is the religion of peace and we want to prove that,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina reiterated her firm stance against terrorism, militancy, drugs and corruption on Bangladesh soil.

For a handful of people Islam cannot be stigmatized, she said adding, ‘The terrorists have no religion, country and society, they’re just terrorists and militants. When a person believes in Islam properly must not become terrorists and militants.’

The Prime Minister said the government does not want the prevailing peaceful situation of the country to fade away. ‘If peace prevails in the country, it’ll achieve prosperity. If the country develops, everyone will be benefitted,’ she said.

She sought blessings of the Alem-Ulema as the next general election is getting closer.

Al-HaiyatulUlia Lil-JamiatilQawmia president Allama Shah Shafi presided over the programme. Mufti Nurul Amin read out his speech at the Sukrana Mahfil.

In his written speech, Allama Shafi said he has no involvement in politics and his speeches are often misinterpreted politically.

He also said there is negative publicity regarding him on social media and requested the people involved in Qawmi education not to believe and misled by the negative propaganda against him on social media and electronic media.

Allama Ashraf Ali, Home Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, AL religious Affairs Secretary Sheikh Abdullah, Maulana Azhar Ali Shah, Maulana Farid Uddin, Allama Abdul Kuddus, PM’s Military Secretary Major Gen Mia MdJainulAbedin also spoke at the programme.

Later, Allama Shafi conducted a munajat where he sought blessings for the country and its people.
