5 held while ‘preparing for robbery’ in city

Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five young people allegedly while preparing for committing robbery in the city’s Karwanbazar area on Monday night, reports the UNB.

The arrestees were identified as Babul Hossain, 21, son of Omar Ali of Semia village in Barohatta upazila of Netrakona, Md Shuvpo, 20, son of Nurul Islam of Kendua Kalibari in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, Md Based Miah, 23, son of Shahidul Islam of Ratanpur in Bhola Sadar upazila, Md Akash, 23, son of Abdul Mannan hailing from Nanupur village in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram and Rubel Khan, 25, son of Dulala Khan hailing from Mashdi village in Chandpur Sadar upazila.

Tipped off that a group of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of the elite force conducted a drive near Karwanbazar underpass around 11pm and arrested them.

They also recovered three knives, 2 daggers and three mobile phone sets, said Rab-2 press release.

The arrestees confessed that they had long been committing robbery at different places across the city, the release claimed.
