Police to quiz 4 ‘JMB men’
Dhaka: A court here on Tuesday granted police the permission to interrogate four suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Of them, Hafez Jafar Ahmed, Russell Ahmed Rinku and Abdullah Al Munju also known as Jahangir would be quizzed for five days each, while Russell Uddin on for three days.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abdullah Al Masud passed the order after sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Abul Bashar produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand each.
The court also rejected the bail pleas filed by their lawyers.
The newly formed Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the JMB men from Ambagan area of Moghbazar adjacent to Hatirjheel in the capital on Monday night.
Tipped ff, a team of the CTTC conducted a special drive in the area around 9:35pm and arrested the four JMB members, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Md Maruf Hossain Sorder.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees reportedly revealed that they gathered in the place to plan subversive activities in the capital, he said.
A case was filed against them with Ramna Police Station under the Anti-terrorist Act.
