Univ teachers’ federation extends strike suspension until Mar 6
Dhaka: The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) on Tuesday extended their suspension of strike until March 6 following ‘positive responses’ from the government over removing ‘discrepancies’ in the 8th national pay scale.
The federation secretary general ASM Maksud Kamal announced the extension at a news briefing after holding a meeting with the FBUTA members at the Dhaka University Club.
He said they were assured of meeting their demands in a meeting with salary disparity removal committee on Monday, reported UNB.
Kamal added that FBUTA leaders will hold a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the Secretariat on March 6. ‘If the meeting produces no result, the federation will take a tough programme in a general meeting on March 8,’ he added.
The federation on February 4 extended their suspension of strike until February 23.
Earlier on January 19, the teachers postponed their strike till February 3 following assurance from the Prime Minister after a nine-day work abstention at all the 37 public universities. They demanded for a revised pay scale.
The public university teachers have been protesting against the eighth national pay scale since May last year. The teachers also sought retention of selection grades and time scale.
