Manikganj: A Manikganj tribunal on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for violating a girl in 2008.

The lifer, Akhil Chandra Rajbongshi, a resident of Dhamshwar village in Doulatpur upazila, was also fined Tk10,000, in default, to suffer one years’ more imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the convict violated a girl, a resident of the same village, on 14 June, 2008.

Victim’s family members filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

After examining the records and witnesses, Manikganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Hasina Raushon Jahan handed down the verdict.
