Accused flees Ctg court skipping verdict

Chittagong: An accused in a drug case fled the court premises on Tuesday when the verdict in the case was all set to be delivered, reports UNB.
Chittagong court official Bashir Ahmed said a resident of Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar district, who was on bail appeared before the court in the afternoon and sensing that the verdict will not go in his favour managed to escape from the court.
The court of Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge M Nurul Islam then sentenced Bashir to five years’ imprisonment in his absence and issued a warrant to arrest him.
On 5 September, 2009, police arrested Bashir along with 140 pieces of Yaba tablets from New Market area in the city.
Later, police filed a case against him with Kotwali Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act and submitted charge sheet.
