‘Robber’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

Jashore: A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police on Jashore-Chougaccha road at Dogachia Bazar in Sadar upazila on early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Selim, 40, son of Abdul Kader of Sadar upazila. He was wanted in a dozen of cases including that of robbery and drug, reports the UNB.
Tipped off that two groups of ‘robbers’ were exchanging bullets among them, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB police.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robber opened fire on them forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
At one stage, police recovered the bullet-hit body of Selim and took it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
One shutter gun, 5 bullets, three shells of bullets and some sharp weapons were recovered from the spot.
