Dhaka: Police on Sunday afternoon arrested 11 persons on charges of making an attempt to withdraw Tk 90 crore with forged documents from the Gulshan branch of BRAC Bank in Dhaka.

‘We arrested them at about 2:30pm as they submitted fake documents to withdraw Tk 90 crore from a Fixed Deposit Return (FDR) account,’ Gulshan police sub-inspector Hosna Afroz said.

The FDR holder had died and his nominee is now staying in Canada, she said, adding that the arrestees with a fake power of attorney tried to withdraw the money.

A bank official called the police as he had smelled wrong, she added.

The arrestees have been taken under the custody of Gulshan police station.
