Dhaka: The High Court on Monday rejected the writ petition filed challenging the legality of the recruitment of the Chief Election Commissioner and four commissioners.

The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order, reports the UNB.

Earlier on November 26, Delwar Hossain, a lawyer, filed the writ with the High Court.

The Chief Election Commissioner, four commissioners, law secretary and secretary to the Election Commission Secretariat were made respondents.

Lawyer for the petitioner Yusuf Ali said there is a clear direction in section 118 of the Constitution about formation of Election Commission but it was not followed during appointment of the current CEC and the four commissioners.
