Dhaka: Jatiya Oikyafront, led by Dr Kamal Hossain, will take out a ‘Victory Day Rally’ in the city on Sunday to celebrate the 48th Victory Day on December 16.

The decision was taken at joint meeting of BNP and Oikyafront leaders at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday, reports the UNB.

They rally will kick off from BNP’s Nayapaltan central office around 3pm.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said, “We’ve taken decisions at the meeting to mark the Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and the Victory Day on December 16 with due respect.”

He said the Oikyafront leaders will pay homage to the martyred intellectuals at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at 8am on December 14, marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day.

Besides, BNP will keep the national flag at half-mast and hoist black flags atop its all offices, including the Nayapaltan central one, on the occasion.

To mark the V Day, Nazrul said, the Oikyafront leaders will place wreaths at the National Mausoleum in Savar at 8am on Sunday.

Later, he said, they will also place wreaths at the mazar of late President and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital the same day.

BNP will hoist national and party flags atop the party offices in the morning on December 16.

Nazrul said BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, its chairperson’s Gulshan office and Oikyafront’s Purana Paltan office will be illuminated on the occasion.

At a press release, BNP urged its leaders activists to make the programmes chalked out at the meeting a success.

It also said BNP formed an election steering committee making Nazrul Islam Khan its chairman and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi its member secretary.
