Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Thursday said his force will take extra caution in preparing verification reports for those interested to join police force so that no offender is recruited.

Any recruit in government jobs need police verification report prior to the appointment, and the qualified aspirant will not be finally recruited if police verification report is found adverse, he said.

The IGP came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at Police Staff College in the city on Thursday when his attention was drawn about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s remark in parliament about police recruitment, according to a UNB report.

Earlier, he addressed the closing session of an international training course on Transnational Crime: SAARC Perspective in the morning.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday expressed the hope that the police officials concerned would be more aware so that the activists of Jamaat-Shibir and those involved in terrorist and militant acts cannot be recruited to the police force.

The IGP said if police verification report finds that the jobseeker was involved in any criminal activity, or had bad reputation in local area, will not get the government job.

Police verification is a prior condition to be appointed in any position in government sector.

No matter what political parties he belongs to, police officials will remain alert so that any person involved in subversive activities cannot get government job, he added.

Earlier addressing the closing session of international training course on “Transnational Crime: Saarc Perspective” in the morning, the IGP said organised crime and terrorism are widely perceived to be two separate domains of criminality. “The former involves profit oriented illicit trade, while the latter refers to multifaceted motivated crime,” he added.

Taking full advantage of globalisation, a criminal consider the world as his fertile land, the IGP said and adding that the problems raised by the current acceleration of the globalisation process cannot be brought under control unless all stand under the same umbrella with the regional solidarity, he said.

Additional IGP (HR&P) Mainur Rahman Chowdhury also addressed the closing session as special guest. Rector of Police Staff College Bangladesh Fatema Begum presided over the session.

Sixteen police officers, including two each from Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Bhutan participated in the international training course that began on February 14.

Later, the IGP distributed certificates among the participants.
