Dhaka: Five members of a family suffered burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded at their Uttara Pashchim Thana residence in Dhaka on Friday morning.

The injured are Mohammad Shahnewaz, believed to be in his fifties, his wife Sumaiya, around 40, their sons Shahlil, who is around 15, Jarif, around 11, and 14-month-old Jaran.

The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The hospital authorities said four among the five are in critical condition.

DMCH police camp in-charge Mozammel Haque said the gas cylinder exploded at about 6:30am at the top floor of seven-storey building, where Shehnewaz used to live with his family.

The injured were admitted to the hospital at about 7:45am, said Mozammel Haque.

DMCH Burn unit resident surgeon Partha Shankar Paul said Shahnawaz and Sumaiya were burnt 95 percent, while Shahlil 88%, Jaran 78%, and Jarif received 10% burn injuries during the accident.
