Dhaka: BNP on Thursday came down hard on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for accusing the party of printing fake ballot papers and planning to unleash terrorism ahead of the election, saying she only announced in advance what actually her party is going to do.

While speaking at a views-exchange meeting with different professionals at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also thanked the Prime Minister for what he said coming up with such announcement of their ‘misdeeds’ before the election, reports the UNB.

‘If you (people) often notice the Prime Minister’s speeches, you’ll find that she announces in advance what she’s going to do. She said we’re printing fake ballot papers. Actually, it’s an act of Awami League as they’ve such power, and they’re going to do that,’ the BNP leader said.

He further said, ‘We want to peacefully cast our votes through the genuine ballots. But you’re not allowing people to get the ballots. But we thank you for announcing in advance about your planned misdeeds.’

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister alleged that BNP is printing fake ballot, planning to unleash violence just from 3-4 days before the election and circulate huge money to bring the results in their favour.

Reacting to her comments, Fakhrul said Sheikh Hasina made various ‘false’ allegations against BNP only to confuse people.

He said Awami League is trying to hang onto power by using the state machinery as it has become politically bankrupt.

Under the circumstances, he said, they are trying to wake up people to foil all the plots and put up a strong resistance against ‘evil deeds’ of the government.

‘Let’s get united and continue our fight till the end. We’ve read the eyes of people and we must win the election,’ Fakhrul said.

He said their party has been in the election race amid continued arrest of their leaders and activists and repression on them as the Election Commission is working as the government’s puppet.

‘This Election Commission has no capability to exercise its power. We along with the Oikyafront’s chief Dr Kamal Hossain went to the Commission and talked to them over two-and-a-half hours, but they couldn’t give any answer to our questions. It seems they’re very helpless,’ the BNP leader said.

He called upon people to continue their struggle until they succeed. ‘The 11th national election is very crucial as it will determine whether democracy or autocracy will be there in the country.’

Fakhrul said the government has already made the election questionable with its various acts. ‘They’re still hatching various plots over the election.’
