Dhaka: Robbers looted gold ornaments worth about Tk 30 lakh from a jewellery shop in broad daylight in Dhaka’s Demra on Friday.

Demra police officer-in-charge SM Kawsar Ahmed said a group of 7-8 robbers stormed into ‘Keya Jewellery’ at Manu Mollah Shopping Complex at Sarolia at about 1:30pm during Jumya prayers.

The thugs took the employees of the shop hostage at gunpoint and looted about 70-80 tolas of gold ornaments, reported UNB.

They also beat up the shop employees as they tried to resist them.

Later, the robbers left unhindered with the booty as most of the shops of the shopping mall were closed during the Juma prayers, the OC said.
