Bridge lies with no approach roads for 32yrs
Thakurgaon: A bridge over Amsara canal in Pirganj upazila remains useless for around 32 years as there was no approach road on both sides of it.
Locals said the approach road was washed away during floods in 1987, but no repair work has been done since then, reports the UNB.
Farmer Abdul Khalek, a residence of Kharipara village, said several thousands of people, including school and college students, from nearby villages were suffering because of this.
“In rainy season, there remains waist-deep water. We have to suffer a lot while crossing the area,” he added.
The villagers knocked the doors of different concerned departments of the government for taking initiatives to repair it, but in vain although received repeated assurances from them, he further said.
As there is no approach road, students need to use a bypass route during the rainy season to go to their school and colleges, villagers said.
When contacted, Engineer Ismail Hossain of Local Government Engineering Department in Pirganj upazila, said that he will visit the spot and will inform the higher authorities to take necessary initiative.
However, Pirganj upazila Chairman Ziaul Islam Zia said the road will be repaired soon.
