Dhaka: A court in Dhaka on Sunday fixed 6 March for passing an order whether to frame charge against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of ruling Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan, or discharge him in a case filed for shooting two people to death in Eskaton area of the capital in April last year.

Dhaka Second Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Shamsun Nahar fixed the date after hearing of the two sides, reports UNB.

Meanwhile, Kazi Mohammad Nazibullah, lawyer of Rony, filed a discharge petition.

Accused Rony was present during the case hearing.

Earlier on 2 February, the court deferred, for the fourth time, the charge framing hearing against Rony over illness of the accused.

On 5 January, the court set 2 February for hearing on charges to be framed against Bakhtiar Alam Rony in the case.

Last on 13 August, a Dhaka court accepted charges against Bakhtiar Alam Rony in the case.

Detective Branch (DB) of police pressed charges against Rony for the double murder on 21 July last.

On 13 April 2015, Rony, said to be in an inebriated state, allegedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people-rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub-injured with bullets.

Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 15 April while Yeakub died at the hospital on 23 April.

On 15 April last year, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against unidentified people in this connection.

Later the law enforcers arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing on 1 June last.
