Dhaka: Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan on Sunday said the rail connectivity with the neighbouring countries will be increased, reports the UNB.

The government will increase internal railway tracks as well, said the minister while speaking at the ‘Meet the Press’ programme at Railway Bhaban in the city.

‘The government has plans to build a railway network with Myanmar. Then, it will be easier to connect China through railways. And eventually, Bangladesh will be connected with Thailand and Malaysia through Trans Asian route, he said.

Besides, two projects—Padma Rail Link and Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar-Gundum Rail Line—of the ten fast-track mega projects of the Prime Minister’s Delta Plan, will be completed soon, said the minister.

Nurul Islam also said that the feasibility study of the hi-speed train service on Dhaka-Chattogram route is being carried out.

‘To make the railway sector a profitable one, carrying of goods will be prioritised along,’ he said.

A total of 240 new coaches will be added so that the number of trains can be increased, said the minister.

‘The government is also committed to rooting out ticket blacking,’ said Nurul Islam adding that the railway sector will be made more service oriented.
