Rape case accused killed in Ctg ‘gunfight’

Chattogram: An accused in a rape case was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Marine’s road area in the port city early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Shahab Uddin, an accused in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station over the rape of a madrasa girl, reports the UNB.

Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said that two drivers Shahab Uddin and Shyamol Dey abducted the madrasa girl keeping her hostage on gun point and violated her on January 27.

On information that the accused were taking preparation to pick the girl up again on Monday, police conducted a drive there, but could not manage to arrest them and seized a vehicle.

Later in the night, police in a drive arrested Shyamol from the DC road in Chawkbazar.

After gleaning information from Shyamol, police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am to arrest Shahab Uddin.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Shahab opened fire, forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.

Later, police recovered the bullet hit body from the spot.

Three policemen were also injured in the gunfight, claimed the OC adding that they recovered arms and bullets from the spot.
