Kibria case: Court orders asset confiscation of 10 accused
Habiganj: A Habiganj court on Monday asked the authorities concerned to confiscate the property of 10 fugitives in a case filed over the murder of former finance minister SAMS Kibria.
Habiganj District and Sessions Judge Atabullah passed the order and fixed 31 March for the next hearing.
Seventeen accused, out of 22, including six people who secured bail in the case, were in the dock during the hearing.
Earlier, police produced 11 accused before the court amid tight security.
Former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, Habiganj municipality's suspended mayor GK Gaus and suspended Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury were not produced before the court.
On 13 September, a Sylhet court indicted 32 people, including Babar and Ariful, in the sensational murder case.
Five people, including Kibria, were killed and 70 others injured in a grenade attack on a public rally of local Awami League at Baidder Bazar in Sadar upazila on 27 January 2005.
Awami League leader Abdul Mazid Khan filed two cases -- one for murder and another under the Explosives Substances Act -- with the Habiganj Police Station the following day.
The Kibria murder case was transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal from Habiganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on 11 June for its quick disposal.
Earlier, assistant Superintendent of CID Munshi Atique submitted a charge sheet against 10 BNP leaders and activists on 19 March 2005.
